A SUMMARY OF THE SPEECH OF DR. T.O. POULOSE

Discussion on Personal, Family and Professional realms

Five noble professions: Teaching, Medicine, Law, Engineering and Preaching

Teaching: Noblest of all professions

Personal

Teachers are like tanks and students are like taps Dr. Johnson

Look not through the window but look into a mirror to know yourself and others

Teachers are highly capable of character formation

By 18-20, the character will be completely moulded

Increase of tolerance level

Three vices: misuse of mobiles and digital world, illicit relations, and drinking

Distinctions between how to make an living and how to live

Need to observe children in informal situations

How to live happily is important

If you wait to be happy you can never be happy but to be really happy seize the opportunity and be happy now and try to make others happy

Attitude is everything

Success depends on developing the right attitude

Optimism can conquer anything

4 traits of negative people are: criticism, blame/accusation, complaints, and dissatisfied appearance

Teachers should have a magnificent presence, dominating presence but most importantly a comforting presence

Fear creates block; remember every child is gifted and unique

Institutional point of view

Deviation from objective

Conflict between needs and goals

One should be Contributing personnel, Consultant counselor, and Knowledge worker

Ask always for Main Objective (and defend not with excuses but with repeatedly saying I am sorry!!)

When we grow the institution grows and if we become stagnant, the institution also gets stagnant

Professional Point of View
The key areas are authenticity, productivity, connectivity and possiblity

Types of learning: listening and learning, seeing and learning, doing and learning, interacting and learning

The discussion on able and willing; unable and willing; able but unwilling; unable and unwilling people

Hence leadership necessitates delegation, participatory, directing, and commanding styles

Productivity is potential minus interferences

Three personal qualities: friendliness, frankness, and transparency

The question is not how many seeds are there in fruit but how many fruits are there in a seed!

The largest room in the world is the room for improvement

Three types of teachers: Efficient, Impressive and Effective teacher

Never give up!

Never argue!

Never get hooked up by other people's words, behaviour and emotions!

Adjust your pace along with your partners (with those whom you live with and those you work with and teach)!

What is important is for you is not the matter but the manner in which it is said/done
